Wire and tape shapes

Leaf springs, a common type of spring made from strip material, derive their name from their
shape, which typically exhibits a high width-to-thickness ratio. In comparison to many other types
of springs, which typically have a coiled or spiral form, leaf springs have flat or nearly flat thread
shapes, as their name suggests. When an external load acts upon a flat strip of a leaf spring, it can
store and release energy.
